Internet Etiquette For Blogging Success!
Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and Wordpress, are utilized by millions of people on a daily basis to find out information, share gossip, exchange pictures and much, much more.
It is the main way for people around the world to keep in touch with what is really going on.
Surprisingly, just 6 short years ago, most if not all of these “social networking platforms” did not even exist.
Nowadays, if something of relevance happens and there is someone there with a camera and or cellphone, the information is uploaded to Youtube or one of the above mentioned sites and view/discussed by millions within minuets of the event.
Now, my concern is, as more and more people In today’s “Politically Correct” society, join the “instant information age”, are we are sacrificing quality for quantity?
Least we forget, good manners are a must when marketing on the Net. You have to practice good, (my term,) “Internet Etiquette!”
Sound’s sort of stuffy and formal doesn’t it? But as “Internet Marketers” in an age where everything is becoming shortened,i.e., you are is “ur”, you is “u” and your nobody if you don’t have a “BFF”, I feel that we need to maintain some kind of ground rules, especially if you are trying to make some money along the way.
I will use this article to try and explain what “Internet Etiquette” it is and why it is imperative for Blogging Success plus, layout some of the good and bad thing’s that occur online on a daily basis.
Some of these, you probably know and others may be new to you but, if you do your best to follow them, I guarantee your online experience will be more enjoyable for it.
Here’s a fun look at the Do’s and Don’ts of “Internet Etiquette”
Do -
Try and return all emails in a timely fashion and when you do, please include your name and contact info along with your website url.
When selling a product or service, send a short email acknowledging the sale, thanking the customer and explaining deliver of product
Have a separate, professional email address for conducting business. (Your email address equates to the online version of a first impression)
Update your website on a regular basis. Sticking up a few articles and some affiliate links then forgetting about the site won’t get it done. If you don’t care about your site, then why should anyone else?
An easy way to do this is by using a plugin to maintain the current time and date. At least to a new customer things look current.
Here is a link to a simple plugin that will take care of that for you Time and Date
Spell check all information before you put it up on the web. Again, we all are in such a rush that that letters get transposed or even left out. Become familiar with the built in spell checker and use it before you click publish, send that email or load that auto-responder. Believe me, if you don’t find it, hundreds of someones will find it for you.
Don’t -
I know you are trying to make a point but sending email messages or posting in forums in all capital letters, is the Internets version of YELLING!
Like to use excessive highlighting or a lot of bold copy. Once again, YOU’RE YELLING!
When building your next wordpress theme or CMS, stay away from light color text on a dark background. It’s really hard to read and most people won’t even try thus, no sales.
These are just a few that come to mind. If you have any to add, please send them to reekdog…eerrrrummm, make that eric@affordablegraphicsandbanners.com ![]()
